When I entered college, I was deadset on working in sports journalism. I had spent all my childhood and teenage years playing, watching and studying many sports, ranging from football to cheerleading. I wanted nothing more than to spend my life covering the games that I loved.

I got my first chance as a college sophomore, when I was hired as a sports reporter for LSU Tiger TV, the student-run broadcast station at LSU. I enjoyed reporting and filming games, but I didn't feel like I was living up to my potential.

 

Less than a year later, I was asked to become the weekly sports show producer. This simple request ended up being a blessing in disguise, as I realized that my calling was behind the camera. It also introduced me to normal news producing, which further piqued my interest and made me want to do more than just sports producing.

 

After graduating, I got my first commercial newsroom job as a weekday/weekend morning newscast producer at WBRZ-TV in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Less than two years later, I jumped up markets and became the 5 p.m. weekday newscast producer at WGNO in New Orleans. Everyday, I walk into work with the same goal: to create the most creative and informative newscasts so that viewers will return each and every day for years to come.
